There are many employees that help Sioux Rubber & Urethane produce quality impact-, corrosion- and abrasion-resistant products.
We started operations over four decades ago and during that time Sioux Rubber & Urethane has earned the reputation for being an on-time supplier of high-quality rubber and urethane applications, products and custom designs. Sales Manager Derek DeGroot has a lot to do with that. He’s been at Sioux Rubber & Urethane for 13 years. Derek started out in the plant and moved to sales four years ago. He works hard every day to reach the sales goals he’s set for himself.
“A perfect day to me is just being able to do my job to the best of my ability and helping this company grow,” said Derek. “That is our biggest goal here at Sioux Rubber as sales and management staff. We want to break through the glass ceiling and see sales rise to heights we have never seen at Sioux Rubber.”
Here’s a day in the life of Derek.
Before Work: The mornings start for Derek pretty early. Before the sun even rises Derek is chipping in at home to help his wife get their two kids ready for school. He heads out the door himself soon after. A couple times a week he stops by Casey’s to grab some cookies to go along with his morning coffee.
Work Begins: Work begins for Derek between 7:15 to 7:30 a.m. He starts his day, coffee in hand, catching up on the work he couldn’t finish the night before. From there it’s all sales and providing great customer service for Sioux Rubber & Urethane’s clients.
Lunch Break: Derek takes a quick break for lunch before getting back at the grind.
The Afternoon: Derek’s afternoon is filled with the same responsibilities as the morning’s, but he also starts working on new leads that come from the website, both as possible new customers or new distributors. He either contacts them directly or researches companies that may be a good fit for what Sioux Rubber & Urethane provides; that includes quoting new projects.
After Work: After work is just as busy for Derek. He juggles his time between spending time with his wife and family, to taking the kids to endless sporting events and helping them with homework. A perfect off-work day though would involve watching Iowa Hawkeye football or fishing.
It begins all over again the next day.
“The best thing about this job is the people I meet and the places I get to see and the relationships you build with your customers,” he said. “We take great satisfaction knowing that what we are offering our customer is the best available product that will save them money in maintenance cost and help keep them running longer.”
