Safe grain handling is a top priority for both farmers and grain elevators. Last season’s difficult harvest conditions have required some area farmers to store grain with higher than normal moisture content, according to Southeast Farmers Coop in South Dakota. Unloading this grain can cause a variety of problems from clogs in the tube to bridging in the bin, which is a huge safety hazard. Utilizing best practice safety procedures, like never working alone in a bin, using lock out/tag out procedures and making sure your equipment is free of dust, helps to keep everyone safe. Adding an extra layer of protection from urethane helps keep your equipment safe as well.
Tuff-Tube Reduces Grain Abrasion
Tuff-Tube® is a lining system made from a patented urethane that seamlessly fits inside steel spouts from 4- to 20-inches in diameter, creating a barrier between seeds, grains and fertilizer and your expensive piece of equipment. Adding it to your steel spouts this season can help keep that high-moisture grain from adding extra wear-and-tear, especially if you need to forcefully break-up any grain that has clumped or crusted together.
Tuff-Tube® won’t add to your plugging issues either. It was developed with a top holding ring that sits on the top of the spout, helping to assure no grain, seed or fertilizer coming up the conveyor belt can get under the Tuff-Tube® liner. We guarantee it won’t buckle, plug or peel.
Replacing Tuff-Tube® Takes Minutes
This season is sure to have enough challenges but installing or replacing Tuff-Tube isn’t one of them. Tuff-Tube® only takes about 10 minutes and can be done right on-site. The liner simply slides into the spout, without the need for elevator bolts to attach it, due to that great top holding ring that sits on top of the spout. There’s no equipment needed. It is available in lengths of 10 to 20 feet and can also be cut-to-fit in the field. The days of shutting down to wait for a replacement are over.
But, replacing Tuff-Tube won’t be on your to-do list for a while. This cost-effective lining system can be rotated 120 to 180-degrees, increasing its lifespan. When one side starts to wear, simply rotate it to the un-used sides. Couple Tuff-Tube® with our lined spout elbows, which have a permanently-bonded liner that matches up to the Tuff-Tube®, for total spout protection. Rest assured when you do have to replace Tuff-Tube, you’re still saving money as it costs much less to replace Tuff-Tube than your steel spout.
