Rollers are used in manufacturing and/or industrial settings for applications that require a lot of contact and/or friction; think about boxes moving along a conveyer belt. But many times rollers are used in delicate operations that need a cushioned touch like smoothing paper, plastic film, textiles and sheet metal. These rollers are usually covered in rubber or urethane to reduce abrasion and absorb the extra impact. And when these rollers suffer from wear, tears or gouges, they can’t perform at maximum capacity. Fixed, moving, and compound pulleys allow material to be moved with the use of a cable, rope, belt or chain. These simple tools decrease the amount of force needed to move a load and can be found in cranes, conveyors, hoists, belt sanders, and the list goes on. Covered in rubber or urethane, the pulley can better grip onto the belt or chain while reducing the amount of friction created.
