Rollers and Pulleys Oh My!

When material needs to be moved, a roller or a pulley is used. Simple machines have been used throughout history to make work easier, and among those are the wheel and axle (a rudimentary version of the roller) and the pulley. And because they’ve been around for so long, you may take for granted how much easier they make your job. These two tools make it possible to move large, heavy pieces of equipment but are also used in delicate applications, and rubber and urethane make them work even better.

Rollers Covered in Rubber and Urethane Handle Delicate Work

Rollers are used in manufacturing and/or industrial settings for applications that require a lot of contact and/or friction; think about boxes moving along a conveyer belt. But many times rollers are used in delicate operations that need a cushioned touch like smoothing paper, plastic film, textiles and sheet metal. These rollers are usually covered in rubber or urethane to reduce abrasion and absorb the extra impact. And when these rollers suffer from wear, tears or gouges, they can’t perform at maximum capacity. Luckily, Sioux Rubber and Urethane can both recover an existing roller or design a completely new protective cover. The sky is the limit on what we can cover and how thick. We’ve covered all types of rollers in varying degrees of thickness of rubber and urethane from 0.063-inches in thickness and up. We’ve also covered all sizes of rollers up to 60-inches in diameter and 20-inches in length.

Pulleys Covered in Rubber and Urethane Reduce Abrasion

Fixed, moving, and compound pulleys allow material to be moved with the use of a cable, rope, belt or chain. These simple tools decrease the amount of force needed to move a load and can be found in cranes, conveyors, hoists, belt sanders, and the list goes on. Covered in rubber or urethane, the pulley can better grip onto the belt or chain while reducing the amount of friction created. We’ve coated all types of pulleys with urethane, including ones with custom finishes like grooved, smooth, diamond, herringbone, crowned, step crown, and spiral.

At Sioux Rubber & Urethane, we apply a variety of types and durometers of Endurawear® Rubber and Endurawear Urethane to virtually any size roller or pulley. Endurawear is our proprietary blend of rubber and urethane specifically developed to meet our customers’ high standards. Our rubber lagging is vulcanized to the pulley or roller resulting in a bond that will not pull loose even under extreme conditions (unlike many glued-on materials). Plus we offer quick turnaround times. When your rollers and pulleys aren’t pulling their weight anymore, let us recover them. Our sales team can answer your questions about which application is best for your business.
