What is Urethane?

We like to think of polyurethane as the middle sibling of plastic and rubber; it has some traits of both materials that combine to make a product that is uniquely useful. Generally speaking, polyurethane is a mixture of two (or more) liquid chemicals - a prepolymer and a curative- that when combined at the proper ratio and temperatures produce a chemical reaction that results in a solid chemical product.

What Makes Urethane Great?

We created Endurawear, our patented polyurethane blend, to provide superior protection and enhance the performance of your machinery. There are many ways to customize a urethane blend to maximize its potential for protecting any given application. Numerous additives can be included in the blend to modify the appearance and characteristics of the finished product. Additives can be simple, such as pigments to alter the color of the finished product, and they can also be complex. We have been known to add graphite, fiberglass, Kevlar, and ceramic chips to provide certain unique properties. One of the most common variants in polyurethane is durometer (hardness). Polyurethane can be cast as soft as 20 Shore A (like a rubber band) up to a 90 Shore D (such as nylon, or a military combat helmet). The unique properties, the flexibility, and the options for customization make Urethane the perfect product for even the toughest jobs.

How Is it Used?

The flexible nature of Urethane lends it to many applications in a variety of industries - it’s one of the things that we love about it! We regularly use it for impact-resistant coatings, abrasion-resistant coatings, roller coverings, spout liners, sheet products, and custom molded parts.
